Allow Lockave in private windows

Chrome disables extensions in incognito by default, so your limits won't apply in private windows. It's a quick fix:

  1. Open a new tab and navigate to chrome://extensions
  2. Find Lockave and click Details
  3. Switch on Allow in Incognito

This screen disappears automatically once the setting is on.

      Add your own site

      Enter the program's name as it runs — e.g. chrome, not "Google Chrome". On that PC you'll find it in Task Manager, under the Details tab. A display name saves fine but never takes effect.

      Set up the blocker

      Pick the device you're protecting and we'll show the steps for it. Takes about two minutes.

      The blocker needs Chrome on a computer

      Lockave blocks sites through a Chrome extension, so this step needs Chrome (or Edge) on a desktop or laptop. Everything else in Lockave works here — your limits are saved and waiting.

      When you're next on a computer, open Lockave in Chrome and tap Set up → on the Device card to finish this.

      Protect private windows
      Chrome extensions are off by default in private (incognito) windows — your limits and blocks would disappear the moment you go incognito.

      Download the installer
      Save it on the PC you want to protect. If you're not at that computer right now, open Lockave on it and come back to this step.

      Run it and allow the security prompt
      Windows will warn that the publisher is unknown — this build isn't code-signed yet. Click More info, then Run anyway, and approve the prompt so Lockave can block apps on the PC.

      Link it with a setup code
      There is no password to type on the PC. Come back here, open Family › Family devices and choose Add the family PC — you'll get a code like ABCD-EFGH-JKMN. Type it into the Lockave window on the PC and click Link.
      Codes expire 15 minutes after you create them, so make it once you're sitting at the PC. Once linked, it follows the limits you've already set here — nothing to re-enter.
